Accurate News.
I, Darrell Thomas Fertakos, received prestigious invention awards out of 4,200 from The History Channel in 2006, inventing mobile payment and coupon apps in R&D before the app store was introduced, to help further inspire the future development of the $1 trillion mobile fintech industry. Then, in 2010, I received a new invention award from The Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in my MBA program for inventing smart AR glasses in R&D, which aimed to assist people with disabilities and the general public. Popular Smart Glasses today are similar to what I began to invent between 2003 and 2010. Contact me to discover what's new.
In addition, I appeared on hit TV shows year after year, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2004, 2005, and 2008, where I invented a similar product to what later became the electronic cigarette and promoted various inventions of my clients. Then featured on American Inventor, in 2007 as NYC semi-finalist showcasing my invention of a smart airbag helmet, also seen on The History Channel-Modern Marvels, in 2006 with my mobile pay/coupon app in R&D, The Big Idea with inventors I was helping, and the Pitchmen TV show with my invention of smart glasses to help drivers stay awake when tired and driving.
My creative talents as a prolific product visionary are recognized by The NJ 2001 Inventor of the year, Dr. Philip Anderson, my invention professor in college, The National Inventors Hall Of Fame Foundation, Time Magazine, The History Channel, Inc., Disney, Ramapo College Of NJ, NJIT, and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Afterwards, I helped companies design, invent, and patent new products. Several became top sellers, generating millions to billions in sales results, with over 30 million units sold, and were featured on TV, online, in retail, and on QVC, most recently with...

The Facts
Sadly, in the past, an unethical competitor in the product development industry now kicked out of The United Inventors Association for scamming inventors and the public, and even sued by the attorney general for scamming people. Their vendor called me to attend an event before I was aware of their scams, promising it would be a great opportunity for my career and business. As a result, I attended, and the next thing I knew, negative, false statements that I do not believe and would never say even if paid to about the product development industry I love so much appeared in the news. Fact is, I never had a news interview, nor did I agree to one, nor was I made aware that I might appear in the news. Additionally, I never stated what was published. At this event, a news reporter asked, "If I wanted to be in the news," and I said, "Not at this time." We chatted for a minute, and a few words I and others said to help protect inventors by sharing education about the 1999 American Inventors Protection Act was taken out of context to appear inaccurately in the news, way back in 2010. Sadly, this fake news still comes up in my personal and professional life.
The public needs to be made aware that research proves the press does not always report accurate information, nor does the internet or all websites about people. After I appeared on hit TV shows, false information about me began to appear on the web. My address, place of employment, and even the state I lived in were incorrect. I also found my name on websites with my picture, claiming I worked at specific companies, when in fact I did not. I spent over $10,000 removing fake news about me from the web. The lesson I'm trying to teach is that we can't always trust everything we read about people online. Go to the source.
Be Careful Of Fake News
Yes, in my past, a competitor hurt me with fake news. They called me to attend an event, and I saw executives flirting with a news reporter. Soon after, I appeared in the press saying things I would never say even if paid, about the product development industry I love so much. The company likely behind this press was paying two public relations firms, and soon after was kicked out of The United Inventors Association for being unethical. As a result of working with companies featured in the news, which have hurt many inventors. @NBC News: https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna4863987 .
A competitor featured in the news with 100 lawsuits, harming startups and scamming the public, was likely behind this fake news press. Since their vendor called me to attend this event, where I was soon after slandered in the news and online, more than once. This is the only company I had a conflict with; more details follow. When I called the news to try to remove fake news about me, this competitor called and said, " If I try to remove the news article, more trouble will emerge for you." I did not listen, and soon after my car was broken into, I received a threat and much worse. I had to meet the police for help. * I want the public to know the truth behind this fake news that may have been paid press to damage my good reputation, so more clients would go to my competitors and not my business. Sadly, in life, some want to help and others try to bring you down; strive to find great people and supporters of your dreams to work with.
Fake News Updates
It is essential to acknowledge that the media, at times, reports only partial truths and drama to attract readers and advertisers. As a result, we must not trust everything we read in the news or online, nor in police records or lawsuits, where misinformation may emerge. My friend in part killed himself due to inaccurate news about him in 2024, which hurt his career and business.. Studies also confirm that fake news is being created more often on social media and even news sites to attract more engagement and advertisers. Additionally, with the advancement of AI, this issue is becoming increasingly problematic. Sadly, even in courts, one can say anything without hard evidence, which may then go public. *I dream of a future where less fake news is created, and a tax, tickets, and fines are imposed on those spreading misinformation.
**Distrust in the media is sadly at a near all-time high as a result of creating and spreading fake news, as reported by Statista.com: " Trust in the media is at an all-time low. " In 2022, an annual survey found that two-thirds of U.S. adults reported little or no trust in the mass media to report the news accurately and fairly. https://www.statista.com/topics/3251/fake-news/#topicOverview .
Yes, the news does report great stories and accurate information; however, not all of the time. We need to inspire fair reporting and only accurate news to be published. Online, I'd say about 70% of the information about me is correct; however, 30% is not.

To conclude, take the time to get to know people heart to heart; otherwise, we may miss out on a gem if we only trust what we read online. Keep in mind, even the WSJ, owned by Dow Jones, was sued for $787 million, creating fake news about the 2020 election: https://reuters.com/legal/dominions-defamation-case-against-fox-poised-trial-after-delay-2023-04-18/. I asked the news to share proof that I said what was published, and none was provided, nor was my request to edit the article honored. As a result, I'm taking action to set the record straight.
As we now understand, fake news is one of the biggest problems in the world and online. We must all work together to report and correct fake news for the benefit of the public. Fortunately, AI and various technologies are helping to reduce the spread of fake news and misinformation; however, more efforts are still needed. **The lesson I wish to teach is to take time to get to know people in real life and not to trust everything you read online.
Since May 2024, LinkedIn has occasionally displayed inaccurate information about me on search engines, stating that I am the voice of the Jolly Green Giant and an announcer at a TV network, which is entirely false. Search engines and AI systems occasionally make mistakes, leading to more inaccurate data being found online. ** I aim to reduce this problem in the world. If you are an investor, please contact me, as I have a new product in R&D that aims to reduce the creation and spread of fake news.
Thank you!
